studio.eu are the Berlin-based architects Paola Cannavò (*1966 Rome), Maria Ippolita Nicotera (*1966 Rome) and Francesca Venier (*1971 Milan). They have contributed to various international design competitions and lecture at several Universities in Europe and the USA. In 2001 they won the Mario Ridolfi Prize in Rome, in 2004 they received an Honorable Mention in Italy for cultural affairs and in 2005 they won the 1st Prize in the international design competition for their transformation of Caporale in Teramo.
Focussing on analysing the contemporary city and exploring ways of drawing inspiration and design methods from the existing urban space. Their projects examine the relationship between landscape and the city.
Talking Cities features an interactive installation of the “Berlin Wall(k)”-project, that studio.eu has conceived and organised together with the Italian Group Stalker. They have explored the 155 km long corridor, where once the Berlin Wall separated West-Berlin from East-Berlin and Brandenburg. Today, the bigger part of this corridor is the borderline between the city of Berlin and the federal German state of Brandenburg. They initiated a collective practice of mapping the spaces of the former ‚Todesstreifen’ – Death Strip – and their transformation during the past 15 years. Here, urban decline and development crystallize far more quickly and drastically than anywhere else.
