Heike Klussmann, Berlin |

Prof. Klussmann, Heike (*1968) is an artist based in Berlin. She studied at the Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf and at the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin. She has taught at the Art Center College of Design Pasadena, California, USA, and the BTU Cottbus, Faculty of Architecture. Klussmann is now a Professor at the University of Kassel in the faculty of architecture, urban planning and landscape planning.
Heike Klussmann is concerned with the drastic and accelerated pace of change in cities such as Berlin. Through film and photography, she approaches the issues of architecture, the city and memory and creates lasting imprints that evoke the memory of significant buildings.
Talking Cities is showing Klussmann’s project “Berlin Alexanderplatz ¬– Kaufhof Reverse”, in which she recaptures the image of the former “Kaufhof” building from within. The old façade was completely removed in 2006. 3,927 individual images, made from inside out through each hole in the façade, can be reassembled to re-create a new/old façade. In the film of the same name, these individual photos become a fictional camera journey through the lines of the façade, that simultaneously appear to be a scan of the four sides of the façade.
