is an experimental architecture factory, based in Tainan, Taiwan. The director Li H. Lu (*1961), a graduate of the Southern California Institute of Architecture, teaches at the Graduate Institute of Architecture in Tainan National University of the Arts. He initiated IF in 1999 to develop experimental architecture, to explore “new species of spaces” and to form a new more “biological environment”. In 2004, IF represented Taiwan at the 9th Architecture Biennale of Venice.
Li H. Lu and a team of 13 students spent a period of six weeks living at the Zeche Zollverein, and building one of their organic, individual architectural installations into the exhibition space. The structure, made of simple wooden beams, demonstrates the philosophy of Interbreeding Field, namely to transform existing realities via “interbreeding and interfering” into multi-layered, sensational spaces, to create an “ultra-utopian, never-ending story”. The passerby becomes a participant who takes part in the story. Video documentations of Interbreeding Field’s projects will be shown in public areas of the walk-through exhibition.
