Stefan Eberstadt (*1961) is an artist based in Munich where he teaches sculpture at the Academy of FineArts. He has had residencies in Edinburgh, London and New York.

Eberstadt seeks to explore territories where sculpture can function outside the art space by involving certain social necessities and architectural issues such as flexibility and mobility.

Talking Cities documents Stefan Eberstadt’s “Rucksack House”, which he docked on to an exisiting former industrial building: the “Baumwollspinnerei” in Leipzig, 2004. In spring 2006, he moved it to Cologne and attached it to an apartment house. „The claustrophobic living conditions I experienced in mega-cities like London or New York when living in small appartments with sometimes only one window towards the outside world, have initiated the idea.“
