DCDC is a non-profit, self-sustaining teaching centre located within the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture. Established in 1995, it provides architectural and other design services for community organizations and other non-profit organizations outside of the university context and sees itself as a multi-disciplinary centre, striving to renew the city through the interaction of students, professionals, faculty and community members.

Talking Cities is presenting large-format photographs of the “Firebreak: House Wrap” project in Detroit, Michigan. The project is one of a series of installations in and around a burned house, located only 15 blocks from the centre of the city of Detroit. The series intends to transform specific, particularly bleak sites in the city into positive assets, by focussing attention of residents and the larger public on the site, perhaps awaking a greater interest in alternative uses for the house: „It's physical and distressing. Like road kill in a sense. There's something visceral and intimate about working with a burned house - you're dressing it but in a way your stitching into it.“ -- Margot Lystra
