Andreas Bergmann (*1970) is a designer based in Berlin. He studied Industrial Design in Braunschweig and Berlin. In 1999 his bench “Swords into Ploughshares - Fences to Sit” won first prize in a national competition called “Die Deutsche Bank” (‘bank’ is the German word for bench as well as bank).

Bergmann tries to break with the force of habit – he asks us to reconsider conventional perceptions and uses by calling fixed codes of behaviour into question. In Talking Cities he demonstrates this with his deformed „Bauzaun“ (building fence). An everyday object in the urban landscape, basically temporary, but in the exhibition space it invites to dwell a while.
